The suit of armor came into use at the beginning of the 15th Century. It usually consists of the helm, breastplate, and backplate, gauntlets, pauldrons, vambraces, counters, sabatons, greaves and gorget, sometimes called a neck guard. The suit of armor was usually afforded only by the nobility or professional soldiers as its cost could equal that of a small farm.
